Butyric Acid - The Miracle Molecule in The Human Body
Butyric acid , a four-carbon organic acid produced in the human body by the fermentation of probiotics. For the past ten years, my main research has been on this magical little molecule. The butyric acid mentioned here is n-butyric acid. Isobutyric acid, in the body, does not do anything. The easiest way to achieve gut health is to consume a high fiber diet containing lots of different plant foods. The reason for this is that fiber, especially prebiotic fiber, feeds our intestinal microbes. The fermentation process produces short-chain fatty acids, which are associated with beneficial health outcomes. In short, it is actually short-chain fatty acids that provide many of the benefits associated with gut health. Three main types of short-chain fatty acids exist: butyric acid, propionic acid and acetic acid. Benefits of butyric acid Butyrate benefits include reduced inflammation and risk of certain chronic diseases, including obesity, heart disease and type 2 di...
